We're Back!!!

Hi guys!!! Sorry it's been so long since our last post. We've been busy with finals and things of the sort! Life of a college student. SO....here is Robyn's hair update:

It has been 3 months since my big chop and my hair is growly fiercely! there is a lil bit of breakage which means that it is time for a protein treatment (egg yolks, mayo, and coconut oil). It really strengthens your hair follicle. I have tried a few products since my last post. One of which is Cantu Shea Butter. It was recommended to me by 2 type 4b people and my hair is NOT 4b so Cantu Shea Butter is NOT for me. Smells great though!

Next I tried something from Lush cometics! Absolutely loved it! I used the Retro shampoo (even tho I was against it becasue it had sulfates in it) and I forgot the name of the conditioner. It really softened my hair. Lush is located in any Macys!

Lastly I tried Shea Butter Loc and Twist Gel. I used it to do a 2 strand twists. I am really loving the curl definition. My hair is finally doing what I want it to do. lol. Check out my pics!

3.5 Month Lock Update & Product change

hey everyone sorry for the long delay but its been 3 1/2 months since I started locking my hair!! i've learned a lot about my hair and myself in this short time of locking my hair! i've had to change products because they were too harsh on my hair. I no longer use the lemon juice, and he changed the product he uses to twist my hair! also since my hair tends to dry out kind of quickly, i have to moisturize it a little more often! but I talk about it more in my video so check it out!!!

update on my second month with locks

Here's a video of me 2 months after i started my lock journey. Haven't had a re-twist in about a week and a half so its starting to look a little rough but not too bad. If u have any questions feel free to ask! also at the end of the video there are some before and after pictures of my hair before the re-twist and after

The Forgotten Naturals?

So one of our college friends told me she wanted to be featured on our blog. For a second I had forgotten that she was natural because she always presses her hair. I've never seen it in its kinky state. Then it got me thinking...am I the only one that associates being natural with the afro puff? I know I'm not. lol. I've heard some veteran naturals talk bad about naturals who constantly flat iron or dye their hair. I personally don't use any heat on my hair (personal choice. not knocking those who do). I think the flat iron is just as damaging as a perm and I love my kinky curls. But anywho, why do we leave out the girls who are chemical free but still flat iron? Is there a stigma in the natural hair movement about naturals who flat iron? Are there rules for being natural? What do you think of when you think of natural hair. Also, for the nappy ladies that do use frequent heat, defend your case! Speak out! We don't mean to forget you :)

Stretching your hair

Hey Nappy Students!
So today I got a lot of compliments on my hair and how long it was getting! It has been almost a month since my big chop! My secret...PROTECTIVE STYLING! I know the afro is cute and all but if you want your hair to grow you have to take care of it! I have a tendency to always play in my hair and that is a NO NO! I try to braid or twist my hair every night. I know that's the last thing you want to do after a long day of school and work but protective styling cuts down on breakage, helps retain length and adds curl definition. Also, this is not just for 100% naturals. Transitioners can do it too.Braid outs and twist outs blend the two textures of hair. Check out this link for more info.

What is 'natural'?

So I just finished watching a documentary for class called Food, Inc. and it got me thinking. Us folks who don't put chemicals in our hair call ourselves 'natural' but what exactly does that mean? Honestly while pondering on this question I just got more questions rather than answers. Can we call ourselves natural if the food we put INto our systems is just as harmful as the creamy crack we used to put ON our hair? I would love to say I only eat organic food but the reality of it is that is not true. I am on a very tight budget (tuition is not cheap.) but I do try to make a conscious decision to watch what I eat. Our body is a temple. I challenge you all the not only think about what you put in your hair but what you put in your body. So weigh in: what does being natural mean to you? Does it just stop at hair? Some people say that going natural is a lifestyle...I'd have to agree.
